BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Candace Guy pitched a three-hitter and Baldwin County High School took advantage of four Spanish Fort errors to hand the Lady Toros a 4-1 defeat last Thursday in Spanish Fort.

Guy, a sophomore left-hander, struck out 11 Lady Toros and walked two.

Centerfielder Jimeshia Bennett and left fielder Rachel Wood had two hits each for the Lady Tigers, who collected seven hits in posting their second straight win and improving their record to 5-10.

Baldwin County, following a trip to county rival Daphne this past Tuesday, hosts Robertsdale in another intracounty 6A matchup Thursday at 6:30 p.m. on the BCHS diamond. The Lady Tigers will also be at home Friday at 5:30 p.m. against spring-breaking Station Camp, Tenn., High School.

BCHS will travel to Toulminville for its second 6A Area 3 game Monday at 5 p.m. against LeFlore Preparatory Academy. The Lady Tigers will continue Area 3 play next Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. home game against Satsuma.

The Lady Tigers are 0-1 in Area 3 play, having lost 5-0 March 11 at Satsuma.

Spanish Fort took a 1-0 lead with a third-inning unearned run. Terra Reeves led off the inning by drawing a walk, then she stole second and scored on an error by Baldwin County shortstop Carli Demko.

Wood opened the Lady Tigers’ sixth with a triple. Two infield errors by the Lady Toros helped Baldwin County score twice to take the lead.

Bennett reached second base on an error to open the seventh inning. Demko’s infield single and Wood’s ground-out to first made it 3-1. Another two-out infield error allowed Demko to cross home plate.

Beth Adler had two of Spanish Fort’s three hits. She singled leading off the second inning and had another base hit with two outs in the sixth, but was gunned down at second base by Bennett trying to stretch the hit into a double.
